Room 308, Wednesday Morning

Kaylee had a good time yesterday at the welcome party. She found the whole experience to be exciting. She met so many shiny people, including another girl who enjoys fixing engines and doesn't mind getting greasy in the process.

She also ran into River and Zoe. Although she wasn't her Zoe. Kaylee still couldn't wrap her mind around some of this stuff. Still, it was a comfort to know she is the principal of this school. Made it feel a little like home. Serenity. She sure missed that boat and the people on board she left behind. But she was determined to make the best of everything. There were so many new and exciting things to learn about. She was ready for the challenge.

"Not a problem," Kaylee adds. "Yesterday was kinda hectic, huh?"

"I didn't realize there would be so many new people," she admits. "Especially since we don't even have classes yet." She might be pouting about that last part.

Kaylee nods. "I sure do hope classes are offered soon. It'll make things more interestin' for sure."

"I didn't even realize until yesterday this this was camp," says Hermione. "I thought we'd be in classes today. It would be a lie to say I'm not disappointed."

Kaylee tries to remain positive. "I'm sure there will be fun things to do at camp. Educational things even."

"If there isn't, I may have to file a complaint," she says seriously. "Or start something myself. So, what do you do in your spare time?" She really hopes the answer isn't anything noisy.

"I like fixin' things...like engines. What about you? What do you like to do...besides schoolin'?'"

Hermione quells the urge to add a G onto Kaylee's words. "Well, I do like to study," she says, "but usually I would talk to my friends, and I ran a group dedicated to the protection of house elves, but no one really understood it, I think."

"House elves?"

"They're creatures who are usually enslaved to act as servants for humans," she answers. "It's only because they don't know any better. If they knew anything of freedom, I'm sure they'd enjoy it."

Kaylee frowned. "They're enslaved? That's awful."

"They can only be freed if someone gives them clothes," she says. "So I took up knitting."

Kaylee ponders. "I should take up knitting to help out."

"That would be an emormous help," says Hermione, pleased. "I don't know if there are any here, but if there are, I can send some to my old school to be left out for them!"

"Sounds like a shiny idea to me," Kaylee says, grinning.

"Shiny?" she asks.

Kaylee nodded. "Shiny. Means very good in this case."

"Oh," she says. "Well, I think this is going to work out nicely."
