Room 516, Monday

Kaylee was sitting on her bed, glancing around at her near empty room. The Christmas lights that were still up were the only sign that someone had lived here.

It was a little hard to believe she would be leaving in a few hours.

Alphonse was, of course, at Kaylee's door as soon as he could get there, and knocked.

"Hi Al," Kaylee said with a grin. It was more of a sad smile.

"Hi, Kaylee," Alphonse said, returning a similar smile. "You're... leaving soon?"

"Yeah," Kaylee replied. "In just a few hours. Glad you stopped by so I can say goodbye to ya."

"Of course. I want to say goodbye, as well. Oh! Actually," Alphonse quickly began shifting his hand through a pocket in his coat. "Before I do, there's something I got for you."

"You did?" Kaylee said. "You didn't have to do that."

Still, she wasn't going to say no to a shiny gift.

"I want to, though," Alphonse replied, picking a spot in the center of the mostly empty room. "Come to think of it, I don't believe I ever told you about this." He pulled out a small plastic bag with some dirt, emptying the contents into a small, neat pile on the floor. "When I was younger, we'd get stuff like this and make all sorts of things out of it. Mostly for practice, but it I kind of liked making things for my friends." Out of the same bag, Alphonse grabbed a piece of chalk, then looked up at Kaylee. "So... you have a favorite animal?"

"I like cats," Kaylee said, curious about what Alphonse was attempting to do."

"Cats, okay," Alphonse couldn't help but grin a little, and with the chalk began to draw a simplistic array design around the pile. Once he was done, he set it aside. "Watch carefully, it goes kind of quick." Alphonse set his hands at the edge of the array, and upon activating it, it began to emit a small glow; within seconds, the pile of dirt in the middle began to mend itself into something else entirely. The glow faded, and where the pile used to be, Alphonse picked up a small, wooden figurine that fit comfortably in the palm of one's hand; it was a very simple one of a cat-- nothing terribly artistic, but it was still obvious what it was. "Here," he said, offering it to Kaylee.

Kaylee just watched in awe. "Wow, that was real shiny."

She took the cat from him. "Thank you, Al. This means a lot to me."

Alphonse beamed. "I-It's nothing too special, but I thought it would be nice..."

Kaylee smiled sadly. "It's special to me."

"Ah, thank you," Alphonse said. "And good luck on getting your ship back in good condition."

"Thank you," Kaylee said. "I'll miss you, Al."

"I'll miss you too," Alphonse replied. "And... goodbye."

"I ain't gonna leave without givin' you a hug." And she did just that. "Take care, Al."

Alphonse returned the hug, not wanting to go for a very long time. "You too, Kaylee. Stay safe up there."

Kaylee nodded. "I will. And you stay safe down here."

"Don't worry about me, but I will, too," Alphonse said.

"I'll write to you," Kaylee said, giving him one last smile. "Bye Al."

"I'll look forward to it." Alphonse fell silent for a moment before continuing. "Bye, Kaylee."
