Room 516, Monday

Kaylee was sitting on her bed, glancing around at her near empty room. The Christmas lights that were still up were the only sign that someone had lived here.

It was a little hard to believe she would be leaving in a few hours.

River knocked on the door. "Kaylee?"

"Hi River," Kaylee said, giving her a small smile.

"Hello." River entered the room and sat down on a chair. "Time to go soon?"

Cally had gotten a phone call and could hardly believe it. She knocked quietly on the door with her free hand, since she had a wrapped package in her other.

"Yeah," Kaylee replied. "In a few hours."

Kaylee went over to open the door, greeting Cally with a smile. "Hey Cally."

Cally caught Kaylee with a hug. "Dork. Skipping town and if you'd done it any sooner I wouldn't have gotten to say g'bye."

"You won't have to miss me for long," River said with a crooked smile. "I wrote to Simon about the trip to Miranda. He wants to see me. I'll visit this weekend."

Alphonse was, of course, at Kaylee's door as soon as he could get there, and knocked.

"Oh! Well, that'll be nice," Kaylee said sincerely. "And I'll make sure to keep in touch even when you're not visiting."

Kaylee wasn't expecing a hug, but she wasn't complaining at all. Hugs were nice. "Glad the weather was crazy then. I wouldn't have wanted to leave without sayin' goodbye to you."

River nodded, happy to hear that. She assumed Kaylee's reports on life on Serenity would be more thorough than Simon's.

"Hi Al," Kaylee said with a grin. It was more of a sad smile.

"Good," Cally said. She pulled back and held out the package which contained a single solid spanner. "This is for you."

"And you better keep in touch with me," Kaylee said. "Keep me posted on all the Fandom weirdness."

River's face lit up. "Of course I will," she said, then grinned. "Have some news now. But don't tell Simon yet."

Kaylee opened the package and grinned. "Awww, Cally, you didn't have to do that. That's real nice of ya. Thank you."

"What kind of news?" Kaylee asked curiously.

"Slept with Jack." River had turned blushing and giggling.

"It's sort of an white elephant," Cally said. "I had two, and, well, I figure you might need one for your ship, maybe."

Kaylee blinked. "Oh...yeah, definitely somethin' I don't need to be sharin' with Simon."

"Oh, I'm sure this could be of good use for Serenity," Kaylee said. "Thanks again."

"Hi, Kaylee," Alphonse said, returning a similar smile. "You're... leaving soon?"

River nodded in agreement. "No need to worry him. But there will be more if it, I believe," she said, clearly happy with that situation.
